Being unable to repair or develop the current school building the ambitious plan of building a new school was developed. In conjunction with a local Architect and the ICOVCC (school committee), plans for a new building were drawn up. The new school will be built in 4 phases but when complete will include: 8 classrooms 2 offices 2 toilet blocks Kitchen and dining area A staff room The first Library in the community Kitwe Town Hall have been very supportive and donated 2 acres of land right next to the community for the new school building. The complete build will cost around £150,000 with phase 1 being the most expensive at £60,000 as it includes all the utilities. When phase 1 is complete, with its 2 toilet blocks, 4 classrooms and 2 offices, the school will be able to transfer to this new building. A school consists of more than bricks and mortar. The school now receives a regular monthly income from the charity with which they have chosen to do the following:- Send their volunteer teachers on a training course Provide a small (£10) monthly supplement to each teacher for food and soap (we can’t afford full salaries yet) Purchase teaching materials Sponsor some of the children on to a secondary school to continue their education
