A Typical House
In the Race Course community the houses are not set at random, but along streets. They have no running water, but there are water kiosks’ that sell water from the mains water system. Perhaps 10% of homes have electricity supplied. There is no mains sewage, so pit latrines in the garden are the order of the day. Most homes are made of dried mud bricks, with wooden roof timbers and corrugated iron roof. There are gardens around each home where vegetables are grown where possible to supplement their diets. The community is alive with music, children playing, and chickens running around the streets!
