What is your job title? Deputy Secretary What is your role at school? To keep records for the committee especially the minutes, to work hand in hand with the top secretary to see that programs are ongoing, to ensure that we talk to the parents on matters relating to the children’s education, and to supervise the work within the executive. How long have you been working with Ituna Community School? I have been working for two years. What do you enjoy about your role at school and working with the children? I enjoy the fact that we as a management are bringing the children from bad morals to good ones in real life especially with the help of ICP, I say thank you and please continue with the same spirit God be with you in saving the children, and in addition I enjoy working with my fellow staff because we always manage to accomplish whatever we have set to do i.e psycho-social (visiting the children in the community) and encouraging the parents about the importance of community school. What difficulties do you find working at Ituna School? The fact that some children come to school on an empty stomach, hence doze in class, others are very vulnerable such that they can’t manage to have basic school requirements such as stationery, shoes, and decent clothing to come with at school. Some pupils have no parents because of the deadly disease HIV AIDS, hence handling such pupils need ample time and proper attention. What family do you have? I have no family but I am renting a house in twatasha. What do you do? I am a volunteer teacher at Ituna community school How do you hope the school will develop over the next years? Thanks to the ICP for starting constructing the school which is at the slab level. I hope in future we can expand from pre school to grade twelve so that we can even help those pupils who are failing to continue to grade eight because of financial problems. What would you like to see happen? To help more children who can’t afford to pay for school fees as well as orphans, to develop different skills for the children at the school. To send all untrained teachers to college which is already in progress, to at least provide food for those who don’t have any. To provide IGA [Income generating activities] for income for the school and vulnerable children, for the school to have a vehicle to assist it in transport and to improve the running of the school by the executive committee.
